The Enemy: Excel and Repetitive Work

Every department had the same problem, just a different spreadsheet. Engineers emailed calculation files and lost track of versions. Finance re-keyed invoice data across multiple systems. HR updated the same staff record in four places after every hire.

Smart people doing repetitive work — because no one had built a better path yet.

Two Pillars

As part of the innovation team, we are driving a 2024–2028 digital strategy across the whole company.

Performance — Automate the Repetitive

Finance, HR, Marketing, Project Management, QHSE, Engineering — every department had manual steps that repeated on a cycle. The approach: map the workflow, find what's repetitive, then automate it or replace the broken tool.

We connected systems the company already owned — MS 365, Deltek Vantagepoint, eFormity — so data moves automatically instead of being re-entered by hand. For engineering, we replaced personal Excel files with web apps: same calculation logic, but version-controlled and accessible to every team.

Less admin, fewer errors, more time on actual work.

Innovation — Anyone Can Build a Product

The second pillar turns ideas into tools — bottom-up.

Anyone in the company can submit an idea. The innovation team shapes it into a real product, from concept to launch. The ideas come from the people closest to the problem; we give them a structured path.

1

Ideation

  • Open to everyone
  • No filter on who submits
2

Business Definition

  • Who is it for?
  • What's the ROI?
  • Does it fit company direction?
3

Plan & Build

  • Research, design, prototype
  • Validate, then implement
4

Launch

  • Staged rollout
  • User onboarding
5

Monitoring

  • Track adoption
  • Measure impact
  • Iterate

Example projects initiated by colleagues:

ToolOrigin
EER / PUE CalculatorEngineers copy-pasting Excel files across projects
Shaft Sizing ToolManual lookup from reference tables every time
ESG Compliance RoadmapQuarterly spreadsheet updated by hand
Project Health MonitorMonthly report compiled manually from ERP exports
Cost Engineering ReportsFull-day report prep per project
CSRD GHG Reporting dashboard showing emissions by scope across 2019–2026
CSRD GHG Reporting — tracking Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from 2019 to 2026

Digitalisation stops being an IT project the moment the whole company participates in it.
